This challenging, yet intreging, interesting and gripping novel is an excellent read for all people about 12+.
Following the tale of Arthur Ransome this fictional,with lots of truth, book is exciting and satisfying. It is set mainly in Russia during the revolution and follows Arthur all over the place.
It is a good book that I reccomend, and there is really nothing much else to say!

Let It Go, by John Green, Lauren Mricale and Maureen Johnson
This brilliant collabouration of three award-winning authors is an excellent must read. If you enjoyed The Fault in our stars, Eleanor and Park, or any other books like that then you will love Let It Go.
This novel is for anyone 12+.
"As the three stories collide, strangers cross paths and romance blossoms with heart warming consequences.
Touching, hilarious and filled with alternative festive sheer - what else did you expect from a trio of today's bestselling authors?"~The Blurb

To Kill a Mocking Bird, Harper Lee
This exclellent classic is a must read for anyone over the age of 12. It is a good read for both boys and girls, I would definately reccomend it to anyone.
To Kill a Mockingbird (TKAM), by Harper Lee, has been a school and home favourite for ages. It has some hard vocabulary, but is definately not a hige challenge.
TKAM is an excellent book to read and show off about to you're friends and teachers because although not all that challenging it looks good if you have read it.
TKAM is about a small family: father; Atticus, Jean (Scout); sister and Jem; the brother. The Finches live in Maycomb County, Alabama, America in about the 1930s. The book is all about them and the challenges they face.
(There is also a film based on the book)
This is a truy excellent book, on eof my favourites, and I would certainly reccomend it to everyone (even adults) over the age of 12.

Getting in touch with your idol
If you have read and loved a book, why not write to the author? This is a great way to ask them your questions, show admaration or even ask for a signiture.
You could e-mail them, send a letter, or contacted via twitter/facebook ect.
To find out the author's contact details simply go to their OFFICIAL website and click on the contacts link. Sometimes author's prefer it if fan mail is sent to the publisher or agent first, so don't worry if the name your sending it to is different to the author's name.
Be careful you're sending it to the real things, it might be worthchecking on a nother website to see if it is the same.
So, get sending! And good luck!

Eleanor&Park by Rainbow Rowell
This incredible, touching, exciting and must read novel by Rowell is an essential on the reading lists of absolutely anyone above 12. For boys, girls, adults and teens this book is outstanding.
Plot
Eleanor's family and home life is going quickly downhill. But then Park happens. Slowly but surely the 16 year olds fall in love and they rescue eachother. But can things be perfect for ever?
Eleanor&Park, you are my favourite book of all time.

The Sandfather by Linda Newbery
I didn't particuarly enjoy this novel, it wasn't for me. But it was action packed.
Plot
Hal gets suspened from school. He has never known his father, so when he stays with his Aunt in his Mum's seaside town that she grew up in mystery and tragedy shake hands.
This book is a good book for people 10/11+.
There isn't much else to say, but I did give it up for a few weeks before rejoinging it and finshing the book.
Linda Newbry has also written many other books, so if you enjoyed this then why not try Catcall, Nevermore or Blitz Boys.

Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck
This intreging, action full, historical classic is a must read. It is something a bit more challenging because it was written a long time ago, so the language used is slightly different. However, don't be put of - it might be a bit challenging, but its not impossible.
Of Mice and men is a bit sad, so children younger than 11 shouldn't read it because of this and the fact it's challenging.
The Plot
Of Mice and Men follows the story of two ranch men in the 1930s, during the great depression in America. George and Lenny have always dreamed of their own place, so when their job takes them to some men who might have what they've always wanted, how will things turn out?
I would definately reccomend this book as it is a must read.
I would, however, not reccomend buying it on Kindle unless you want all the introductions/note taking help. So if you are just reading it for pleasure and not for exams I would buy it in a shop. Also on Kindle it is generally expensive.
Of Mice and Men has also been made into a film, so after you've read the book, why not watch the movie?

Wonder
This touching novel will change the way you look at people for ever.
Plot
August is a normal kid. Apart from one thing: his face. Born with facial differences August has never gone to school, but then his parents decided to send him to school.
This book is all about how August gets through school.
Narrated by different characters in different parts, you get diffferent views and parts of the story.
I would without a doubt reccommend this to both adults, children, boys and girls about 11+.
BE AWARE: this book is quite sad and may not be sutible for children under 11.

Small Steps, Louis Sachar
This brillant "sequel" to Louis Sachar's 'Holes' is a must read if you have read and loved Holes. It is action packed, but has a bit more realism than the horific escapeds at Camp Green Lake.
Plot
As we all know camp Green Lake has been shut down, so what happens to the boys? Small Steps is all about Theodore (Armpit), finiding his way through life after Green Lake.
HE knows he must take Small Steps, but when X-Ray shows up with an offer Amrpit can't refuse, will it actually change his life for the better?
Before you read this book ensure you have read Holes, other wise it will make no sense.
The book is as good as Holes, so if you have enjoyed that then make sure you read Small Steps.
Small Steps is stocked in a lot of book stores, as it is so good and well read.

If
For a change, I have decided to leave you with a poem. Although this is not my usual type of post, I thought it would be nice. It will be the poem 'If' by Rudyard Kipling (and yes, he did write The Jungle Book)
I absolutely love this poem, and I think it is very true.
The poem reads;
If you can keep your head when all others about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired of waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
if you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster,
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken
And stoop and build'em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-loss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
and hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
I agree with every single line: it is not age that makes you and adult; but how you deal with problems and look at the world.

The Weirdstone Of Brisingamen
Don't be put of by this books weird title, it is actually a good book. \although not amazing, it is still a good book to read if your teacher/parent is nagging you to read something more challenging. Ok, so it's not the best book in the world, but it is still a good read for anyone 10/11+.
The Plot
Colin and Susan meet a wizard (it is less weird if you actually read it) and they find out they own a special gem that wards of all evil and there for stops them from controlling the world. Unfortunately, some evil creatures and wizards also find out and the two kids are n big trouble. They must get the stone to Cadellin, but will they succeed?
Filled with weird names this book is quite complicated, but despite that a good book.

The Switch by Anthony Horowitz
Although not in the Alex Rider series, this book is also by Anthony Horowitz. As always with this author, this book is an action packed novel filled with adventure and mystery. This book is for about anyone 9/10+.
The Plot
Bob and Tad live very different lives. Tad the rich upper-class boy, and Bob the poor criminal teen. Both teens would never meet, but when Tad wishes something that he really shouldn't wish, they do more than meet: they become each other. Only the boy's (and Tad's dog) know. Will they ever be themselves again?
I would certainly recommend this to everyone who has read any other of Anthony Horowitz's books, likes action packed books and wants a good read.

Ties that bind, Ties that break
This heart wrenching, gripping novel by Lensey Namioka will not only make you laugh and cry, but will also make you think.
Lensey tells the sad (but with a haooy ending) tale of Ailin. It is 1911 and things are hard for girls, especially when their engagment is broken. Horrible traditions must be broken, but a girl is completely powerless in China, Ailin must just accept her fate (and painful feet) - right?
Although reading this review you may think it to be too sad, but I didn't actually cry - and you probably won't.
I can assure that when reading this novel you will learn many new things, about tradition, China and change. The book is not overly complecated, and not overly sad, so I would reccomend this for anyone about 11+.

Wolf Brother
This gripping and slightly scary first in the series by Michelle Paver, is a must read for 11+ boys and girls. It is set in ancient times with clans, demons and wolves
Plot
Torak's father is killed by demon bear that is destroying the forest. Living away from the clans his only hope is in an orphaned wolf cub. Single handedly Torak will have to defeat the bear - but is he all alone?
Be warned, this book is quite scary if you are the lower end of the age scale.
But don't be put off. You should start in anyway, if it is too scary then you can just stop and read at a later date.
I would certainly reccomend this book and all the others in the series, even the I have not yet read, if they are anything like the first one then they are definantely worth reading! Just, if you are one of the younger ones, read in daylight!!!!

Jessica Cole: Model Spy, Code Red Lipstick
I have just finished reading the brilliant Code Red Lipstick, first in the Jessica Cole:Model Spy series. I have been able to access the book before it has come out, it will be launched on June 5th with a sequel coming out in January, and a third book coming out next summer.
The book is all about 14 year old Jessica Cole and how she fights to find her Dad and stop Allegra Knight.
Despite the deceiving front cover, this book is not a particularly girly book, but will probably appeal more to girls than boys. It is aimed for people about 11+, and is suitable for both genders.
If you like mystery, thrillers, spies and books like Alex Rider then you will love Code Red Lipstick.
Sarah Sky's first novel is a brilliant read and I would certainly recommend it to everyone. It can currently be pre-ordered on Amazon, but will soon be on the shelves.
You can follow Sarah on twitter @sarahsky23 .

The Fault in our Stars, John Green
The Fault in our Stars is an amazing book following the life of Hazel. The sixteen year old from America has cancer in the lungs.
THIS BOOK IS REALLY SAD, so make sure your ready. although I ddin't actually cry at the ending, lots of people did, and I was definately sorry for all the characters.
This book is narrated by main character Hazel, and if you know someone who has cancer this book may affect you in a different way.
But don't let it put you off, for a start; everyone is reading it, there is a film coming out, and finnaly it is a great read. As it says on the back cover of the book: "Prepare to alugh, cry and think".
The book also offers a really interesting view on life.
I would with out a doubt reccomend it to all adults and children about 11+.

The 5th Wave
This thrilling, imagination capturing book is the brilliant starter to the sequel (coming out in summer 2014).
It is America in the not so distant future and aleins are invading. Cassie is on the run, when Sam gets "rescued" she begins thinking she is the only human left. Until she meets Evan. Cassie has to choose, between hope and realism, between life and death.
The book is split up into around 8 or 9 parts. The book is further split into chapters, making it a manageable read.
The plot is not overly complex, easy enough to follow, but hard enough to get you thinking.
I would definatley reccomend The 5th Wave to anyone, 11 and over, boy or girl.

Clockwork, Philip Pullman
This not so well known novel is a great way to read something more challenging. It is a small book, with a complex plot.
Clockwork is set in Germany, in about the 1800s (?). It gives an interesting in sight to life from another percpective, and despite its odd storyline, I would reccomend it.

Anthony Horowitz
As well as the Alex Rider series, Horowitz has written many other novels and series'. He wrote The Power Of Five, The Diamond Brothers and many, many more.
But Horowitz's talents don't stop there, oh no! He has also written screen plays like Midsomer Muders.
Anthony Horowitz was born in North London and still lives their today. He has recived many awards for his writing.
His is a brilliant author and I would undobtlely reccomend all of his work. If you are reading this wanting to know more then you should head to one, two or all of the websites below.

Scorpia
Scorpia - 5th in the Alex Rider series. Before you read this book ensure you have read the previous ones.
The book starts of a little oringly, but soon enough Scorpia has dragged the reader in to an action packed world of criminals and lies. This book is truly exellent.
The book ends in a cliff hanger, so as to ensure the reader reads the next books. After Scorpia comes Ark Angel in the explosive series by Anthony Horowitz. This is a book for both boys and girls, so don;t get put off if only the boys in your class have read it.

Mockingjay - 3rd in the Hunger Games series
Just finished the third and final book in the world famous Hunger Games trilogy. This was not the best in the series, but I would still recomend it. But you have to read the first two in the series before you start Mockingjay.
All the way through the book the reader is gripped. However, asn event at the end of the book really got on my nerves, it was just unnesersary to kill **** (I did the name in * so I didn't ruin it for you!).
Ok so, the basic plot. Well war breaks out between the capitol and the districts. People die, and Peeta is captured. But when Peeta gets rescued something isn't right...
the book has an epiloge - which I like in books; it makes the book feel properly finished. In Mockingjay's case it is a two page peek into Katniss' future.
The film
As we all know the first two Hunger Game films have come out. So when will Mockingjay hit the screens? Well, in November this year (2014) Mockingjay part 1 is realised

Hunger Games, Catching Fire
The second in the Hunger Gmaes triology is a brilliant book. At the start of the book there is not much action and is quite boring, but if you stick with it gets much better. This is one for all the action lovers out there. This book sets your heart racing and you literally can't put it down.
I have to say, the book is a bit grima dn if you hate wonds and find blood sikening this is certainly not for you. This book is the second in a superb trilogy, obviosly you have to read the first one to get it.
The plot
If you have already read the first one then basically President Snow wants revenge. With the quater quell approching things couldn't be more convinent...
If The Hunger Games is a new idea then it is about America in the future. Starvation strikes the country of Panem and the Hunger Games come about. Every year a girl and a boy between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are put in the arena tof fight to the death. This may sound sick and gross, but it is not. The idea is so unrealistic (children being forced to kill one another), that it is not at all horrid.
This book is ceratinly not for children under the age of 10 as it contains some, possibly, scary aspects. This is one for adults, pre-teens and teens, but the kids will enjoy it more.

'101 Things To Do Before you're old and boring'
'101 Things To Do Before You're Old and Boring' is a great book to get you out there. Inside this funny and useful novel is a burst of brilliant ideas. With step by step guides and ideas to get you going.
I have the book myself and am working my way through the 101 things to do. Some of these include inventing a new trend, starting a collection, and teaching your grandparents something new. Whether it's the weekend, the holidays or you're just bored there is something in there for you to do. Some things require effort and time; like spending Christmas in another country, whereas some are quick and simple to do: like starting a blog.
i would definately recommened this book by Richard Horne and Helen Szirtes as it is a brilliant book and a great way to try something new. I purchesed my copy off amazon, but is probably avalible at the stores too.

The Boy in the Smoke
The Boy in the Smoke is an excellent, yet sinister novel about a troubled Eton boy. On night in the boathouse he does performs a desperate act that changes his life for ever.
The book is for about 12+, but if the reader doesn't like ghost books then this is certainly not for you. The book is small, with only 86 pages. The novel is available to get with our world book day tokens. World book day is a brilliant scheme to get kids, and teens, reading.
Back to the book, TBS is one for the teens, it has lots of ghosts and keeps you no the edge of your seat the whole read. It really doesn't take long to read and is certainly good book.

Finding your style
Do you want to really get reading but can't seem t find the right book for you? Well, the key is in the comments. Usually on the front or back of books there will be a comment like: "A brilliant thriller" The Times. Look at these and it becomes obvious what type of book it is. If it says "A brilliant thriller" then you know that the book is a thriller.
If you don't even know if you like thrillers, and your thinking: "What does 'thriller' even mean?" then ask around. Ask your friends to tell you the books they've read and ask them to tell you briefly what happened in it. This will give you an idea of whether you will like it or not, if the plot sounds good to you then you'll probably like it.
If you have no friends then go into a book shop, pick a book you think you might like and ask the owner to give you an idea of the plot. For this strategy it is best to go into an individual book seller as they know more about the books on their shelves than the big brands and chain shops. If you don't fancy the trip to the shops (lazy!!! :P) then go on eBay, amazon etc., and search for the book you want and click on reviews. This isn't the best way, but it works.
Finally, leave a comment asking me to review a book for you, I'll do my best to do it.
If all else fails, get the book anyway.

the street or the web when buying books?
So, you want to get a new book but the rain is showing no signs of stopping. You decided to order one of the internet - but eBay or Amazon. Well, personally I would go for Amazon, when book buying. Amazon's books are better quality and they are easier to get.EBay might be cheaper in some cases, but Amazon has more choices. On Amazon you can see the back, front and inside of books, on eBay this is unavailable.
Also sometimes eBay's produce can be in bad condition, for example: have writing in it etc. However, Amazon's products are new and therefor generally in better condition. I guess it is up to you which one you head for and eBay certainly has a lot of options when it comes to which one you want, but when online book buying I head for the Amazon option.
Of course if possible then go for individual or chain book stores as there you can actually look at the boo your getting before you pay. I wouldn't go for supermarkets when buying books as they tend not to have that much produce chose. I would say that shops that just sell books are best as they generally have more range, when it comes to books. But shops that sell stationery as well are good.
In conclusion, Amazon is probably more reliable when it comes to the whole online book buying business. and when you can get out head for the shops, not supermarkets. I would recommend shops rather than the web when searching out books.

Ruby Redfort, Catch Your Death
Catch Your Death, starring Ruby Redfort, is an amazing action packed book about a teenage spy. This book is third in the Ruby Redfort series. Author Lauren Child has written many other fabulous books, but the Ruby Redfort series is the best.
I would certainly recommend this thrilling and gripping read, but I would read the first two books in the series first as they provide important facts about the teenage girl from America.
The Ruby Redfort books are both for girls and boys, it isn't girly or boyish either. Despite the main character being a girl her best friend and accomplice on most missions is a boy. Basically, it is a unisex book.
I would also recommend all Lauren child books, for little kids and older ones. Go to this web address to find the Ruby Redfort page. I would recommend going!... http://rubyredfort.com/

Midsummer night's dream
MND is a very well known play by William Shakespere. The film and play are a must see, but the actually book of the play is very confusing. The use of old English confused me. Despite the useful dictionary it is tiresome to have to be continually looking things up. I know it is a classic but if you were going to read it, or going to get your child(ren) to read it i would go for one of the simplifyed versions. It is a very nice story and i would certainly reccomend it to everyone; but unless you aref fluent in old Engilsh make sure you get a simplyfied copy!

How to train your dragon - book and film shock
How to train your dragon is a good series of books for boys and girls between 9 and 12. however, when the film came out it really annoyed me because it is completely different to the books. new characters are introduced and characters personalities are flipped. the only common thing is the basic plot, and the main character; Hiccup.
It is the same with the Tv series, although good, it is a complete con of the book. So if you have read the books and are about to watch the film/TV series, or vis versa, you'll be in for a shock!

Just finished 'Wilderness' by Roddy Doyle. it is about a family who go on holiday to Finland. While the Dad and 18 year old daughter are at home, the two boys and mum are out in the wilderness riding dog sleds. It is a good book, not the best, but worth reading. it doesn't get to the point for a while which some people might not like, but if you like realistic novels that aren't too long then why not try it?

Children of Winter
Children of Winter is an amazing book. At first I thought it would be for younger readers due to the large font size, pictures and not many pages. However this book was certainly not for little kids, the whole concept of the book would confuse them. Catherine Patsy and Andrew are on a walk with their family. The dad gets lost and the mum goes out in search of him, leaving the three children in a barn. Whilst the parents are gone Catherine seems to remember the barn long ago. they start to play a make believe game set in the era Catherine recalls so well and their game soon becomes a reality...
It is not gruesome at all and a very gripping novel i would certainly recommend it to anyone 10+.

'Holes' is a world renowned novel by Louis Sachar. It is a absolutely brilliant book and i would certainly recomend it. I watched the film, then read the book. I usually would do it the other way round, sometimes it spoils it. However, this wasn't the case with Holes. If you haven't read it then read it!!!!!!! Holes is a tense book and the reader finds themselves constantly gripped by the thrilling escapades Stanley Yelnats goes through (the main character). It is one of those books that you HAVE to read - so READ IT!!!! It is available basically everywhere so it isn't hard to get hold of!

Anne Of Windy Willows, it is in the Anne Of Green Gables series. Its start is honestly: boring. However, the book does get better. It was a little bit of a let down, the other ones in the series where really good. I understand if you start it and give it up, but I got through boring bits and I enjoyed it: it gets better! I wouldn't let it stop you reading the others in the series though, they others are really good. If L. M. Montgomery was around now I would tell her to try and improve it - add a bit more action!
My words to anyone starting, or thinking about starting it are: give it a go, stick to it if you can and what is the worst that could happen? Anne of Windy Willows and Anne of Windy Poplars are the same :)

The Works or W.H.Smiths?
I will be reviewing, for a change, book shops. To start with W.H.Smiths. Well, they are a great place to go to get stationary or books, however in Smiths it is quite expensive. On the other hand, they are reliable and, despite their prices, I find myself - along with many others - going in there a lot.
If you aren't up to facing W.H.Smiths prices then 'The Works' is another place to go. They don't have as many books a Smiths (their speciality is stationary) their prices are more reasonable and the staff are kind and helpful.
So, in conclusion, I would recommend The Works if you want great deals, but if you want more choice then I'd go for W.H.Smiths. http://www.whsmith.co.uk/dept/books/home?page=1&results=60 http://www.theworks.co.uk/?gclid=CKuAjomcg7wCFanjwgodx1YAsg .

Pick Me Up - the book!!!
'Pick Me Up' s a awesome encyclopaedia with loads of facts, illusions and interactive activities in it. It is not a book that you would read all the way through in one go, necessarily. It has a great range of facts, there will certainly be one that interests you! Don't get it confused with the magazine!

| This is the book Pick Me Up. |
Stormbreaker, first in the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz. It was a brilliant series starter and because of it i am currently reading the sixth in the series. It was action packed and good for both boys and girls. i would say that it is for ages 9+. If you liked The Hunger Games then you will probably like this too. It is for younger children, though.
So, to start with i will be reviewing the Malorie Blackman book Hacker. Hacker is a great book for everyone, whether you love computing or hate it. It is easy to follow and is gripping. I must admit that to start of with I wasn't all that into it, but once you have started a book you should try and finish it, they usually turn out great! This book was no exception, i am nearing the end of it and it has been a satisfying read. Hacker is about a girl called Vicky. Vicky's dad has been accused of stealing one milltion pounds. The novel is all about Vicky's quest to prove them wrong. She goes to amazing feats with her brother Gib to solve the mystery. I would give this book, so far 7/10. :)
